Unity2D - Runtime creation of PolygonCollider2D collision data with 2D "voxel" mesh data

Hello, This is a short post showing how to generate the collision data for a PolygonCollider2D using 2D " voxel " data using the most basic of methods. This tutorial exists because I struggled to find something like this. Please note that this solution uses minimal optimization methods; there are better solutions out there. This function assumes you already have a Mesh  created with some 2D pixel system that contains vertex and triangle data. // Custom collider function static void GenerateCollider(PolygonCollider2D polygonCollider2D, Vector3[] vertices, int[] triangles) {   // Set paths to 0 to remove old data; default   polygonCollider2D.pathCount = 0;   // Loop through triangle data   for(var i = 0; i < triangles.Length; i += 3)   {     // Increment pathCount     polygonCollider2D.pathCount++;     // Add 3 vertices for a triangle     polygonCollider2D.SetPath(i / 3,      ...

01 - One year later

It's been about a year since I last posted here. This past year has been filled with numerous Unity gamedev projects with only a few making it out of the oven and into the Google Play and iOS stores. The rest were scrapped or put on the back-burner for later. Let's run down the list of projects in order: A tight-controlled, Super Meat Boy-esque rocket game (scrapped) A quick defense game for mobile (published) An infinite runner with two buttons (scrapped) A COD-zombies-like FPS (scrapped) A neural network simulator (scrapped) A mobile infinite "jumper" (published) A John Cena soundboard (published) A "It's Wednesday my dudes" soundboard (published) A multiplayer-arena type FPS (scrapped) A platforming game (scrapped) A stealth-action game (current) The breakdown of these projects and the post-mortems of the published ones are for different posts. Although, it may be interestingly sad to note that the two published soundboard apps have done...

00 - Introductions

Image
Hello, Everyone!    This is the first of, hopefully, many posts that will be detailing my experiences as a game developer! This first post will get the ugly stuff out of the way: basic introductions and background, along with what I am currently working on. I'm not used to blogging so these first few posts will be messy.  Let's get into it. A History    I am a solo indie developer studio. I will begin my story before BoxedWorks was even an idea.  I have been dabbling in game development since I was in middle school. From around the age of 12-14, I played the game Roblox . This game has you use the scripting language, Lua, to make levels that other people can play. Basically, the better you were at Lua, the better your levels were. It really piqued my interest in programming and it's where I self-taught myself the basics.  Roblox was a great place to learn to program as there were so many resources to look at and forums full of other people as ...
